Digital Story Telling

Adobe Voice

Upon telling a digital story about water and some simple facts, the app Adobe Voice was extremely simple and interesting to use. Out of all the apps i have reviewed I think this is the best that I have used and one of the apps that I could possibly use on a regular basis. The steps on making the digital story was very easy and fun to do, granted that there are a few hiccups on when I keep recording bad takes. The background music and the theme was easy to manipulate and edit. I didn’t even have to have pictures downloaded separately on my iPad, I could browse directly from the app itself and embed on the story. This could be a great starter for each lesson or class to get the students hooked and show them a brief preview on what the days lesson will be over.

Overall this is an app I will recommend highly and will use!

Inspiring Lesson Ideas

Learn Pythagorean Theorem Through Exploration

When using apps and have the iTunesU app downloaded, it is extremely easy to have access to different resources regarding education. There is a special category for educators in the app and within that they have a collaboration of different inspiring lesson ideas where educators can go in and subscribe and get new resources. I chose to subscribe to the Middle School Math: Learn Pythagorean Theorem Through Exploration and have a look into the iBook.

Within the app it had content table for the overview explaining the purpose of the lesson and then a section for instructors and outline and other expectations. It was very easy to browse around.

image

It also listed the Common Core State Standards that it was going over showing what it would cover.

image

within the content files it showed materials that were used within the app such as videos and links to resources to websites and other information.

This could be easy to use in classes over some more complex materials that could have supporting resources for students also it could be very informational and resourceful for educators.

Explain Everything Lesson Ideas

This Apps in the Classroom was found through iTunesU which is an app that provides courses that are education related. Upon browsing through different collections I chose the Explain Everything Lesson Ideas, which I found that i could definitely use in a classroom situation that I will be teaching in.

The course uses the app called “Explain Everything” which is basically like an interactive whiteboard. As i read through the course I found that it could be utilized within science classes as an assignment and be educational for students

As you can see above there is an example that a student made about tornadoes, it is very simple yet informative and can be used for a flipped classroom situation and can be very engaging for students. The utilization of this app in class can promote students to think deep and logically to come up with a way to explain a certain concept to their peers and can be used in a jigsaw type assignment where each group will be an expert and explain to their peers.

This app can be definitely highly recommended.

One Best Thing

One Best Thing: Twitter in the Primary Classroom Engage, Inspire, & Collaborate

image

I visited the One Best Thing collections on iBooks and found a book that was most interesting to me, it was about the use of Twitter in classroom. To me technology means a lot, not sure whether it is because i’m from a country that is technologically advanced but I want to be able to utilize technology to its fullest. When reading the book, I found that there were various ways to integrate twitter to the classroom including class discussions and also having class to class discussions and question boards. It is a great way to interact with the students and introduce them to technology and proper use and etiquette in using the net.

The most important and attention grabbing part of the book was the disclosure paper part where it let the parents know what was going to happen and laid out the rules and expectations for the use of twitter. This is extremely important to have in the beginning so that written expectation can be enforced and kept.

I find it interesting that iBooks has a program like this, it would be fascinating to find out what else there could be. I will most likely be reading several and keep up with the updates.

Week 7 Reflection: Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

The blog chosen for this reflection was “Educational Technology and Mobile Learning”. From all the blogs I’ve done reviews on seem to have a trend, which is the development and increasing use of technology within classroom. This website listed hundreds of resources that were not only iPad specific but also for androids and for computers such as the dominant use of google drive. To me the most useful function i would use is the google drive app for android that will scan docs into searchable pdf files, because as a science teacher most of my notes will be easier to write out rather than type out due to multiple chemical structures and diagrams. Having images that I draw out from hand that is directly made into pdf files along with my notes and lesson plans would be a great advantage for not only me but also to produce handouts for the classroom.

This website is definitely a website to keep in my bookmark and re-visit often. Also another good aspect about the website is that it constantly keeps you updated on new features from previous apps or programs to let you know what has been updated and can use.

Week 6 Reflection: Ditch That Textbook

Ditch That Textbook

The blog I chose for this reflection was “Ditch That Textbook”. This website provided multiple alternatives to having textbooks and many resources in which a classroom could be run with. the most interesting part that caught my interest was the google EduOnAir program where students could put collaborative works and powerpoints and have lessons together and have the teacher send out personalised emails on guidance. This can be very useful since google also tracks who edits what, so in cases of projects you can see the participation within all the students. Also the fact that you can share information real time makes it readily available in classrooms.

The website layout was very simple and bold and I liked the entire theme of the colours and how the information and posts were presented. This could be a regularly visited website for me in the future if i decide to do something out of the “textbook”.

OSMO Words Week 4

Earlier in the beginning of the semester I was introduced to an app called OSMO words and it was a useful app in introducing visual to word connections and increased tactile and the kinetics modality. This week on the app I was able to make my own set of words associated to the chemistry subject with words and visuals connected. My created words are 1. Benzene ring, 2. Amino Acids, 3. Alcohol, 4. Ketone, 5. Water, 6. Polar, 7. Ethane, 8. Non-polar, 9. Single Bond, 10. Atom, 11. Periodic Table, 12. Double Bond, 13. Ethene, 14. Triple bond. This type of collection can be used as a formative assessment so that the students have exposure within the materials before doing this activity. This activity is specific for high school students. The app was easy to use and to make my own collection was also easy.

image

The only aspect within the app that was difficult to use was the fact that you had to use large images. So if you had images that were small or medium sized it couldn’t register the images to upload and had to find larger images. However, it is an easy app and package to use in class.

Week 4 Reflection: Free Technology For Teachers

Picture2

Free Technology For Teachers

For this blog excerpt i visited “Free Technology For Teachers”. The website itself was very resourceful in a way because it had different categories on each technology such as iPads for school settings and Androids so it had alternatives within the technology. Also a main feature I liked about the website is that each post had the “You might also like” section which showed related posts or posts within similar apps which gives you the opportunity to browse around within the same categories.

Tellagami App Review

Tellagami

Price: Free

Review:

When i used Tellgami, it was really easy to use, and the steps were very short. All I had to do was choose gender and change the physical looks to my desire, however, since i downloaded the free version I was limited to only 1 options per category. If I decided to actually implement this in a class i could purchase the full version and use it for short introductory of each lesson since on the free version it is only allowed a 30 second video, but for the full version 90 seconds is allowed. Personally if the time was not limited and I could make a video for however long then i think it would be easier to use and much more use in class.

Week 3 Reflection: Larry Ferlazzo’s Websites of the Day…

Picture1

Larry Ferlazzo’s Websites of the Day

I liked the blog “Larry Ferlazzo’s Websites of the Day” because I was able to visit different websites that were related to classroom management and resources that could be used in class. One of my favourite website was the one for “SuperTeacherTools“. I was able to visit the website and definitely thought that I could use the jeopardy for science classes with various different questions that can deal with common knowledge and other interesting facts. It could definitely help the engagement of the students within the classroom and help them become more active.

The blog itself was visually simple which was easier to browse the site, however, the theme made it seem a little bit chaotic. There were a lot of videos that were linked, in which some of them auto playing which was a little annoying to me. If there were multiple videos that have autoplay then the sound could be overwhelming.
